"The Constitution supposes what the history of all governments demonstrates, that the executive is the branch of power most interested in war and most prone to it. It has accordingly with studied care, vested the question of war in the legislature. [If a president is successful in bypassing the Congress] it is evident that the people are cheated out of the best ingredients in the government, the safeguards of peace which is the greatest of their blessings."

Can't argue with that. Nixon BTW did bring our boys back home. Who will be the next to do so?

For sometime now, I've felt that I may have been wrong about "Nix on Nixon". This quote certainly makes me feel that I am right about being wrong. I don't think Nixon was doing what he was "supposed to do".

I hated Nixon during the 60's and the seventies. As I have matured I have found that he wasn't such a bad president and I have mellowed in my dislike for him. If he had had the wisdom to have been honest I probably would now respect him..
