"What I had failed to understand was that the security I felt in the Party was that of a group and that affection in that strange communist world is never a personal emotion. You were loved or hated on the basis of group acceptance, and emotions were stirred or dulled by propaganda. That propaganda was made by the powerful people at the top. That is why ordinary Communists get along well with their groups: they think and feel together and work toward a common goal."

This is the common definition of 'collectivism.' Collectivism is essentially servitude (they like to call it 'service') as the individual is considered subservient to the group. Of course the hypocrisy is that the group inevitably is under the control of an individual who constantly beseeches that they 'sacrifice' for the 'common good' -- all while billions line the pockets of leaders and politicians.

This is the description of the mafia, in other words critical thinking is anything that doesn't criticize the gangster, seen this first hand by the way. I know I spent a whole conversation with a gangster basically critiquing his whole world only to be told I need to be open to critical thinking. Communist are open to ideas, analysis, critique, conversation, diversity, the entire universe, in essence it is a science. And one more thing, In Humans We Trust.
