"It would be the greatest mistake, certainly,
to think that concessions mean peace. Nothing of the kind.
Concessions are nothing but a new form of war."
Vladimir Ilyich Lenin
[Vladimir Ilyich Ulyanov] (1870-1924) First Leader of the Soviet Union

Reader comments about this quote:
There are some compromises which cannot be made -- like giving away one or two inalienable rights in order to protect the rest. If we cannot negotiate with terrorists, then we cannot give in to certain terms even if it means 'peace' (for a while). That goes for any other socialist agendas that may be proposed in order to 'secure peace' in the world at the expense of our hard-fought liberties.

Concessions do not mean unwarranted compromise of core values... lest we forget, killing is something we're not supposed to want to do either...
     -- Anonymous, Reston, VA US
It's interesting that the neoconservatives of today are saying the same thing. They're both wrong, of course. Concession does not equal surrender. As Confucius wrote, you're never going to get everything you want, or nothing that you want -- you make concessions and the other side makes concessions and you reach an agreement. That's how you achieve an enduring solution.

How true. Of course he understood this. He ran a country. Too bad he didn't think like so many libs in this country think. He might have not been successful. His country wouldn't have been ravished by his tyranny. The deep problems caused by socialism is going to take a very long time to recover from assuming that they are even tiring

As long as concessions do not concern inalienable rights and core values that are consistant with natural law, they are merely an adjustment of procedure. When concessions concern such rights and values, war will result. The democratic oligarchy that now inflicts this nation with socialism and imperialism will result in war, either from domestic or foreign actors.

Any concession when dealing with any tyrant will be viewed as weakness and inspire more demands and threats from him. If you are not dealing with a tyrant yor are not dealing with any threat ot war.
     -- warren, olathe
Concessions are just bargaining chips. Lenin was about imposing his will over others, pure and simple. That is why his brand of politics is deservedly on the ash heap of history. Along with his quotes.
     -- Eric, Wichita
Sorry, his brand of politics is alive and well in the U S congress, the ACLU, and American Universities.
     -- Warren, Olathe

Compromise always defaults to success for evil. Unwillingness to compromise often results in conflict which, if liberty and righteousness are upheld, is necessary to pursue - even to the taking of life to preserve that liberty and righteousness.
