Ronald Reagan Quote

"The NRA believes America's laws were made to be obeyed and that our
Constitutional liberties are just as important today as 200 years ago.
And by the way, the Constitution does not say
Government shall decree the right to keep and bear arms.
The Constitution says 'The right of the people to keep and bear arms
shall not be infringed.' "

Ronald Reagan
(1911-2004) 40th US President

A great and true statement about one of the nation's greatest organizations and the Constitution's greatest amendment by one of the nation's greatest presidents! He is sorely missed.

AMEN Chuck!

... they were talking about hunting rifles, not the war ships and canons of their time (or the rocket launchers and armor piercing ammo of ours).
 -- Anonymous, Reston, VA US

They were definitely NOT talking about hunting rifles. 'Arms' include every deadly instrument capable of being used in defense of oneself, one's family, property, state, and nation. It most certainly included cannon, bombs, blades, trebuchets, rocket launchers, and the rest. That is what 'arms' are -- dangerous weapons. And we have not waived our rights to them nor authorized government to decide whether we may keep them or not. A disarmed populace is quickly brought to heel by the despots, as history has demonstrated. Keep it up, and Americans will be like the Germans after Hitler took over without hardly knowing how they lost control over their country.
 -- E Archer, NYC

Amazing how the simplest words are often the wisest? We the people keep our arms to prevent tyranny from within and invasion from without. Any politcal party or politician that attempts to disarm the people should be charged, prosecuted, and imprisoned for civil rights abuses. Or we can just shoot them and be done with it. If that is distasteful to you as an American, than I humbly suggest that you move yourself and your posterity back to England, where the government will protect you from yourself (but not others).
 -- Eric Engstrom, Wichita, KS

Sure do miss the honesty and sincerity of the late Ronald Reagan.
-- Ken Russell, Sr., Modesto, CA

They were NOT talking about hunting rifles. Sometimes peace is aquired through power. I am only 15 years old, and I am blessed not to be as ignorant as Mr. Anonymous. Amen to what Chuck said. I wish I could have been alive during Reagan's presidency.
