Among other reasons why wars begin, that is one of the many historical truths.

Absolutely -- to the victor go the spoils.

Wars begin when the price of aggression is cheap, or the prize to be conquered is high enough to make the war worthwhile. Four stars for getting half of the equation right.

The loss of human life in any war makes the price too high. But as governments tend to ignore this intangible cost then Reagan is like all leaders who send their children to fight for their vested interest in power.

War is cheap...except for the billions of dollars and thousands of lives. Certainly legislators and their children aren't fighting and dieing, though some of them survived earlier wars. Put Congress on the front lines in Iraq and see how quickly the war ends.

Whether the price of a war is too high or not is up to the individual participants. If the price is too high, surrender. If the price of surrendering is too high, don't.

A simple one line quote is hardly worth deliberating. It is, by its brevity, going to leave out a lot. My interpretation of this remark -- not my critique of it -- is that those who initiate frivolous wars don't stop to think that 'things bite back.' This is something anyone who's has a schoolyard fight understands, or at least should.

Reagan funded the war in Nicaragua with money from arms sales to Iran and Iraq and CIA drug sales in the United States. The "War on Drugs" was Reagan's way of maximizing drug profits so he could destroy the democratically elected socialist government in Nicaragua.
