A certain poetic altruism. I really like the general premise. Government doesn't exist so much to protect us from each other as, implement such tools (codes, ordinances, regulations, rules, statutes, etc.) to define natural law (each of us protecting individual inalienable rights from incursion fromr others). It is the observance of natural law that realizes the protection of justice. De jure legitimate government is nothing more than an extension of the individual sovereign, united with other sovereigns (individuals united at law and justice living in and, protecting inalienable rights). Here, the slave master government protecting us from our selves is an occupying statist theocracy that is infesting this land with vulgar and corrupt malefactors (with few exceptions). Such infestation has gone beyond all limits.

The Bill of Rights exists to protect us from government, not from each other.

Good ol'e Gipper. The master of double speak strikes again. Ironically, he's is the one who really started the ball rolling to get us on the road to where we are now. More than a statist theocracy, but a plutocracy where the corporations dictate policy to the government to further enslave the populace.

To update this apt quote from The Great Communicator, thoday's dems might say:

Govt exists to protect us from the producers outpacing the takers. Our Constitution has placed far too many limits on the boundaries of Our taxation.

With original intent in mind, our government was formed to Protect the individual sovereign's Liberty and Freedom from oppression, Domestic and Foreign tyranny with plunder in mind.
To tax an inalienable right such as the right to contract or private property, components of ancient Chophshiy liberty, ( freedom from bondage and tax, at your pleasure ), such government becomes despotic and tyrannical, warranting a change in course by We the People. President Donald J. Trump, a bold master builder, was elected for such a change in course, in order to Right our Ship of Liberty to what ever degree possible, with a Firm reliance on/in Divine Providence. Natural law, with common law, coupled with commonsense protect ourselves from one another.

Yes, right, but the War on Drugs escalated with 'Just Say No' during the Reagan years, to be escalated more with each president thereafter. I'm not to keen on "Government exists to protect us from each other" either.
