"It is said, mostly by Libertarians, that ‘taxation is theft.’ Theft is too mild a word. Typically, a thief strikes only once, and doesn’t pretend that his robbery is legitimate. Taxation is actually slavery."

First off, I have to ration the five star rating! This one deserves it. Far too many previous items have not. The question begs; "Why don't we have a Libertarian Party?" As a Republican, mine is nothing to rave about. The 'Dems' are on their own. If we had a viable Libertarian Party, I would rush to their door. All I get from my Republicans is opinion polls with donation appeals on a daily basis. When they pay the postage, I send them my thoughts, but not my money. I suspect they are all in it for the money at the moment.

It is neither theft or slavery, it is paying for the services rendered to you by society. TANSTAAFL.

J B-Ron Paul is our Libertarian wearing a Republican title. The Republican establishment want to plug his mouth as well as his bou Rand, but they speak anyway. Both will tell you that our tax system is paying tribute to the government.

Opinions are like rectums-everybody has one--the truth is that most of them are running tne government-Most are mugwumps-their mug on one side of the fence and wumps on the other--Most liberals should be tried for treason and then perhaps the so called conservitives would fly straight

Oh come on Reston..."paying for the services that are rendered to you?" Do you mean with money taken at gun point for services we might not need or want "rendered" by incompetents and "managed" by thieves? You obviously get your paycheck from the same place that welfare recipients do.

Anonymous Reston... "for services rendered" really? You're a typical victim of media brainwash. and if you've paid attention in your history lessons that the income tax system was implemented to pay for the war effort at the turn of the 20th century, but then the financiers saw a windfall and kept the wars going and and the taxes enforced, like J Carlton wrote "at gun point". I don't call that "for the services rendered"

'A' from Reston, who is this society you reference that is of its/his/hers own free will that is giving me things that I neither need, want or am legally entitled to. I have tried to find the address of this society you speak and tried to subpoena it/him/her to testify of your referenced benevolence. Also, the vast majority of the services rendered by Mr. phantom society are unconstitutional, unlawful, and are only rendered as part of a statist theocracy's dogmas (contrary to the law of nature and nature's God) As to the quote 5 stars

The government would hardly need any taxes at all if it were not for the fact that the Central Bank was stolen from the people, and interest is being paid to the rich. I have no objection to a person being rich as long as they do in a fair and honest way. I'd like to be rich myself. The owners of the Central Bank (Fed Reserve) are vultures of the worst kind. They are evil, unfair and dishonest. It is THEIR money that should be redistributed. Alas, we would be so stupid that we would let them get it all back. If the bank had not been stolen, we would be paying interest to ourselves. Why are we so stupid and do nothing about it???

Libertarians don't have a party because they are not party-men. Reston, your use of the word society implies that we are not in it. And as far as services go, it is up to the individual to decide what services to purchase or not. Government is not supposed to be a service provider or a monopoly. It is supposed to make sure no one can rig the game in their favor. Unfortunately, the game has been rigged against us, and the government is used to make sure it stays that way. The primary purpose of people getting together for their mutual protection and welfare is to protect them from thieves, rapists, and slavers who threaten us with death in order to do so. But the thieves, rapists, slavers, and murderers have taken over the government and use that power to accomplish their goals. Reston, either you are consciously aware that you are in collusion with them, or you are being willfully ignorant in order to justify your claim upon your neighbors' property and labors, by calling them 'rich' and therefore, I suppose, obligated to give it to your 'wards' or yourself for 'services rendered.' Yeah, the mafia does the same thing -- they call it 'insurance.'

Mr Tompkins, you might involve yourself in a thorough examination of thievery, and start with yourself, you're most likely going to find a lot of pretending. Socialism is the challenge of social abilities to create traditional practices described accurately.
