I don't know that confidence-in-government is the single most frightening thing one can encounter but, it is way up there on any scale imaginable. According to the U.S. experience  no word or concept in any language  that I'm aware of, described / describes the original concept of individual sovereigns united, managing individual inalienable rights while enhancing liberty through hired servants. An existing body politic term "government" (antithetical to the original concept) was mostly used, due in part to, a common familiarity. The masses, used to dictatorships and tyrants, through an evolution of despotism succumb to servants becoming masters under the descriptive nomenclature of captains presiding over them (government) with only the slightest verbal reference to service.

How the government got the reputation of solving ANYTHING I will never know  I think it's because candidates for office will promise anything to get elected without the people ever considering whether the office has the power or authority to do so.  The biggest complaint about the Green New Deal is that it would bankrupt the country  not that Congress has NO AUTHORITY to pass such regulations!!
