Unfortunately forgotten. Not only that, cops have no more rights than everyone else and are accountable for their actions. The attempt to remove all accountability and liability from 'law enforcement personnel' has resulted in a police state without limit. There are criminals in the police station as well as the government -- that is why our republican form of government places strict limits on what government employees may and may not do. TSA, FBA, CIA, and a host of other secret police organizations operate without oversight -- is it so surprising then to discover that these organizations are biggest drug traffickers in the world? There are dozens of Supreme Court Decisions that now state that no policing agency or agent has any liability from or responsibility to "We The People" - individually or in concert. All policing agencies/agents complete job description (as concerns liability and responsibility) goes to protecting government property (that government no longer representing sovereign individual's inalienable rights - at a most base legal level, traffic rule violation enforcement is not to serve or protect "We The People" but rather, finance the foreign government).
