So I take it that we think the cultures of the mentioned nations are comparable or equivalent and therefore not a factor in the issue. The conflation of "crime and violence" in the quote should give a hint as well.  -- anonymous, USA

Washington DC used to be the 'Murder Capital' of the USA for decades -- that is until the hand gun ban was declared unconstitutional by the Supreme Court. Violent crime has plummeted as a result. In every city plagued by gun-related crime, hand guns are illegal. In cities where the right to carry a concealed weapon is protected, violent crime is nearly non-existent. And yes the Swiss populace is armed with military weapons in nearly every household -- gun-related crime is very, very rare.  -- E Archer, NYC
