"The salient feature of America in the Age of Obama is a failed government class institutionally committed to living beyond its means, and a citizenry too many of whom are content to string along."

Reader comments about this quote:
I believe it has started a lot longer ago than with the Age of Obama -- the age of American fascism started in the early 20th century, solidified by FDR after the Federal Reserve crashed the economy known as the Great Depression. The New Deal ushered in the Age of Fascism (often known as Nationalist Democratic Socialism). Only this time, the con of the 'Newer' Deal is all too apparent. Stop the bailouts, which are nothing but one last theft by the very folks who created this mess. The baby boomers have been the biggest cash cow (or should I say 'herd') since the Fed started printing its own money. And their progeny knows little about what has been traded for their freedom.

Mark Steyn is one of my absolute favorite contributors to National Review Online. However, I agree with E Archer that FDR was the big crook who really started America on our downward spiral. The fact that Obama hasn't any supporters who are non-union and non-governmental-employee is scary. Too many people out there still need to wake up.

Clinton: surpluss; Bush: deficit & "great recession"... the problem is not Obama's fault, it is the GOP & Bush, the rest of us just get to clean up after you fools!

This site should change its name to the Bull Shit Page. How can anyone talk of "The Age of Obama" when the man has been Prez for 2 1/2 years and inheried an age of total and complete fiscal derelection. His predecessors Vice President Dick Cheney taught us "Deficits Don't Matter" and during their 8 years cut taxes three times, fought wars, and ran the country into a major "depression/recession". This recession reduced the revenues of every state government as well as of the Federal Governmnet. We are sunk as a nation as long as the dealogue, honesty, and public discourse sink to the level of Steyn and of the Five Star comments above. Get real you guys, get real. Now why did deficits not matter when Bush was President (after all he was the one who started them after Clinton was running surpluses) but now they matter under Barack, huh, huh, huh?

Waffler - Smith - You need to go back and read what E. Archer stated - "I believe it has started a lot longer ago than with the Age of Obama -- the age of American fascism started in the early 20th century, solidified by FDR after the Federal Reserve crashed the economy known as the Great Depression. And their progeny knows little about what has been traded for their freedom." Then start into reading books on the Progressive Socialist by the name of Woodrow Wilson who was the ultimate start of the Progressive Socialist agenda to bring down this nation's Limited Republic/Limited Government. Or, you can remain in the "Fog of the Unknown." When Bigots Become Reformers The Progressive Era's shameful record on race. http://reason.com/archives/2006/05/05/when-bigots-become-reformers

The 'A' from Reston and Waffler, your striking at windmills only demonstrates your shallow, lying, and mis-direction disconnection from reality. The socialistic progressive policies, starting with Wilson, amplified through Roosevelt have continued unchecked to the present. The only variance in the socialistic progressivism has been the disagreeing factions, the more communist in nature vs. the more fascist in nature (all acting as though government is a god, superior in all ways to 'We The People'). I don't know of anyone that regularly posts here that was in support of any of the Bushes. It seems you 2 have forgotten the dot com bubble during the Clinton years or the Clinton caused deepening recession when King George (Mr. torture) took over. As Archer indicated, Mr. Obamunist Goodwrench the Manchurian candidate assassin is just the last in a long string of progressive problems. The quote only exaggerates the speed at which the current era is inflating into bankruptcy a once free and prosperous people.

A disease in place for many generations is manifesting itself as terminal under the Kenyan who has the printing presses running 24/7 in his effort the be the despot who finally destroys the last vestige of freedom on the planet. Oh and Reston? Bush is gone!

What Reston and Waffler willfully ignore is the 'salient feature' referred to in the quote: "a failed government class institutionally committed to living beyond its means, and a citizenry too many of whom are content to string along." NOW, address THAT in your comments instead of blaming the guys you didn't vote for. And yes whether the massive debts piled upon us were done by the Bush's, Clinton's, or Obama's, the 'salient feature' is the same -- and perhaps one of you can explain how bailing out the biggest banks under Obama's administration is a blow against the corporatism that you guys so often blame for the economic mess we are in? Why has Obama consistently protected big business at the expense of the common man? The Age of Obama is indeed one of hypocrisy and a no-holds-barred approach to squeezing every last penny of the Treasury's credit line into the pockets of the ruling class to whom Obama and the Bush's are/were beholden. It is because of party politics that the people allow themselves to be "strung along" by their party leaders, no matter how much they lie, steal, and WORSE. Stop electing lackey's for the Fed/CFR/IMF/World Bank!

Did Cheney say deficits don't matter or did he not. Now why do they matter undr Obama but did not matter under Bush. Thank God another conservative Bull Shitter has crashed today and his empire of deceit, that being of course Rubert Murdoch and his evil empire which includes the scandalous Fox Channel. Some day truth will be triumphant. And today is a great day towards that end. Have faith my friends! It is good to see Archer spreading the blame equally. But as far as government involvement with society see my posts under the Bob McEwen quote the other day. Guys like Carlton think the massive South Korean auto industry was somehow accomplished by one Ayn Rand type of titan of industry, when the facts are it was aided and abetted by the South Korean government, American Companies such as Ford, GM, and French Renault. Governments, societies and indsutries work togeter sometime. Educate Mary will you Archer.

Archer nails it down. ! As sure as the night follows the day, jealousy, and the disgruntled spirit comes forth. Prior to WW II The " Boomers " parents had a choice, concerning farming ranching if from country life, or those of the city, and those long lines at the soup kitchen. The countryside became inundated with transients. Our independent families of the country helping as much as possible. The backbone of civilization, as children will return to their roots. natural law 101. Some from the independent lot, possessing greater degrees of natural talent, inventiveness, creativity, ( understanding ) move to professional degrees. This, affording enough ( so called ) wealth to move ahead of the tyrannical economic curve. But one manager can direct many. If liberty must be bought, it was, and is, so be it. Way fairing independence, raw rugged honed talent, is the most valuable. and heavily exploited around the world. It is easy to see who, what and why, some and most from the city would follow the mob !

The single biggest threat to this country is progressivism. It is destroying minds in our universities and schools. It rots all reason from its human victims. When some one sells socialism reason will reject it. When he sells Marxism reason will reject it. The progressive will not reject socialism, he dreams of it. He believes that he can bring this country to Marxism incrementally. He believes that communism has failed, not because of its incompatibility with human nature, but that humans are not yet socially evolved enough to see its beauty. He believes that he is ahead of the rest of us. to him we are social Neanderthals. What he does not understand is that socialism is destructive to the human soul. Socialism is only fit for ants and bees and fools. It is freedom that creates wealth and happiness. Liberty and progressivism are incompatible. When one legitimately does what is best for himself he also does what is best for his fellow man. Man creates wealth when he satisfies the needs of others. To tell him he needs to give back when he has stolen nothing is insulting. He has already given and has been rewarded for doing so.
