"The non-producers now receive the larger share of what those who labor produce. The result is natural. Discontent culminates in exactly the same ratio that intelligence sustains aspiration."

Reader comments about this quote:
The regulations are designed to funnel wealth to themselves and keep the producers in debt.  Dependency is encouraged in order to promote the police welfare/warfare state.

With the increase of intelligence one comes to understand their prosperity( fruit ) through labor, discontent rises naturally when excess plunder becomes blatant and obvious. The knowledge of God provides us the lessons in nature to be understood by all. " Art thou called being a servant, care not for it, but if thou mayest be made free, choose it rather..." Apostle Paul.
No sooner than the Tree of Liberty sprang forth, fanciful tyrants sought to plunder and enslave. Then having cut the tree to the ground, after many years, with the sent of Water the Tree springs forth again. This to the dismay of tyrants, who underestimated the resolve of Patriots of common decent. Illegal immigration is the tyrants only recourse seeking final overthrow of a once freed people, who still remain Patriots to the cause of economic Liberty and Freedom to defend such. Amnesty for some, being found loyal is our only recourse, all the while securing our borders from further encroachment. Even to the point of Martialing and military tribunals, that the tyrants will fear. Restoration is cleaning house, of the reprobate filth pushed upon this country. Respect for natural law and order, the wholesome family unit and the common good this nation was founded on shall be Restored. Labor for something outside oneself is the purpose of family. This patriotism for the cause of liberty and Freedom from oppression is color blind to church or statist sentiment. Those that be good, understand the need for such commonsense restorative policies under President Trumps leadership.

And isn't it curious that he wrote this over a hundred years ago...indeed as one commenter put it...the more things change the more they stay the same. But now we must also acknowledge a hostility that's getting uglier and more in our faces from the "liberal" side and take appropriate actions lest we "labor in vain".

I like and agree the observation of comparisons made. Now, the non-producing carnal gods lord over their laboring patrons with discontent raising. The police state administrations of the occupying statist theocracy infesting this land, though vain claiming an intelligent aspiration, are not even a resembling facade of natural law / nature's inspired advancement.

I don't really understand Mr Douglass's conclusion in the above quote. All the same he does, in the first sentence, describes the quintessential inversion arrangement of our  historical governmental officials. Whether a emperor, king, or president you  promote a system of inequality and accompanying non-producing exploiters and of which all the kids  line up to follow.  The effective governing official is the one all the kids resent. He is the one with the heart and has friend in his title. Your Socialist friend is the fellow with the vision of social abilities to create.
