Yes, sadly true. Why are we so blind to the atrocities that are happening each day in our own backyard? It reminds me of what Germany went through as Hitler rose to power; everyone just stood by and allowed it to happen. When you allow governments to demonize portions of society, and stand idly by, you are condoning the laws of tyranny that follow. One day the bell shall toll for you, and pray that someone will hear it and come to your rescue.

    When a certain segment of society begins to behave like terrorists, to give aid and comfort to terrorists, and to propagandize for terrorists, then they ought to be treated like terrorists. I don't recall Jefferson advocating the beheadings of infidels in the Declaration of Independence. Jefferson et. al. were engaging in rebellion without terrorism-an effort to be left alone. That is risky enough behavior, nonetheless. I think Cobb might choose some other word than terrorism if he were writing today.

    It is as true today as it was in Cobb's time. The word 'terrorist' is always in reference to those that wish to instill 'shock and awe' to their enemies -- to terrorize them. The sentiments of the Declaration of Independence under a different banner would certainly be considered 'treasonous' by those that tyrannize. The ideals of the Declaration of Independence are radical even today. A man who declares himself Independent draws a line in the sand -- and more often than not the one who crosses that line is someone representing the State.

    "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights." It is quickly becoming a criminal offense to express religious beliefs in the military. Unalienable Rights are now reduced to civil rights as are determined by a foreign despot that claims inherent rights.

    Where once the President of the States united said: "The thing that sets the American Christian apart from all other people in the world is, he will die on his feet before he'll live on his knees" (George Washington - quoted by Francis Scott Key to Admiral Alexander Cochrane while witnessing Fort McHenry's bombardment) the current top executive despot claims this is not a Christian nation thus eliminating entirely the premise of unalienable rights. Said executive despot is now implementing as quickly as he can a socialistic theocracy.

    "That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed," Now compelled compliance, license, victimless crimes, governmental larceny are inflicted on those that are no longer able to vote for individual(s) to represent We The People, but rather only are able to vote for those who will represent the tyranny of the foreign despot. The quote is more true now than when given.

    This quote was prior to 1923, it certainly does not apply to 2009. Furthermore the Declaration was railing against a tyrannical monarchy. We now have a thriving democracy, thanks to The Declaration of Independence. The proof of our thriving democracy and freedoms is this blog site.

    Hi, Waffler. Sorry, I couldn't resist: this web site is Canadian and hosted in Canada. Canada is still a monarchy, and we operate here as long as we are not considered a threat. Canada has a Charter of Rights and Freedoms which is often called the 'Constitution' -- the difference between it and the US Bill of Rights is that in the Charter the rights of the people are enumerated as set forth from the Crown via Parliament whereas the Bill of Rights declare what rights the Congress may not abridge and that the people have more rights (not enumerated) than those identified in the Bill of Rights -- also the Declaration of Independence and the Bill of Rights are declarations of the people to those that wish to govern them as opposed to the rulers of the people telling their subjects what rights they have. Today we have the right to publish the ideas on this site, but how would we know of the sites that have been banned? Sites are banned all the time -- heck, if Google banned us, no one would be here. Cheers!

    Burned books cannot be read.  Just because you are reading this does not mean that speech isn't banned — banned speech is not heard, you do not know what has been censored.  In the take-over of the world, controlling thought (i.e. the narrative) is integral.  This battle for the control of our labors has been incessant — conditioning our minds for 'service' and 'sacrifice.'  It's the oldest racket in the book, 21st century style.  The pursuit of happiness is but selfishness, and liberty the road to vice and ruin. 

    The “European tradition” which “favors dignity over liberty and civility over freedom” regulates “well-ordered spaces for safety and civility.”  Rather than Americans adopting such authoritarianism, how about Europe and the rest of the world start valuing Liberty in their own countries.  It is America that has been a beacon of liberty around the world, it is up to the people in their own countries to declare their own rights and take a stand for themselves.  THEN you will see the oppressor right to your face, Waffler.

    To follow up 14 years later, yes, Google has essentially blocked search results to this site.  Traffic from Google is down 95%, Yahoo/AOL/Verizon blocks the dally quotes emails, most email originating from this site gets put into Spam folders.  Liberty is a dirty word online, unless it means 'anything goes.'
