I have known many people who have suffered at the hands of armed robbers -- most were shot dead. Those that survived the ordeal bought a gun after the fact. Considering how rare it is to be assaulted in one's lifetime, wouldn't it be smarter to be prepared first? Like a fire extinguisher, a gun is supposed to be handy even though the need for its use is a low probability. But when a fire breaks out, the fire extinguisher can mean the difference between a home or a pile of ashes. Businesses are required by law to have fire extinguishers -- why shouldn't they be required to have guns, too?
