"Those who take the most from the table, teach contentment.
Those for whom the taxes are destined, demand sacrifice. Those
who eat their fill, speak to the hungry, of wonderful times to
come. Those who lead the country into the abyss, call ruling
difficult, for ordinary folk."

What a sad, sick life it must be to divorce yourself from the concerns for your fellow man... for it is the filthy rich who take the most from the table and need to learn contentment... it is those whom are in the most need who are already sacrificing too much (to the detriment of us all)... it is easy for the glutton to down play the needs of the hungry... and it takes true strength of character to provide true leadership (rather than stealing from the poor to give to the rich as today's "leaders" do).

I don't divorce myself from the concerns of my fellow man, I just don't think it's the government's job to FORCE me to do it. I give donations to my own personal charities and personal venues without being coerced to do so. I know exactly where my money goes and why - unlike the "charitable donation" I give to FICA every two weeks. I can give just fine, even when I'm not coerced or compelled! **GASP** What an amazing concept! To actually GIVE because you CAN and not because you were FORCED! Just one of those capitalist things that I guess Socialists will never get.

Anonymous; That's the point of the quote. Thoreau had it right as well (per E A). recall the 'good' the white races did for the native Americans as well as all of the other peoples around the world whom they 'conquered' into empire. The trouble was, they had no place to run to.

Y'all are missing the point. The people who preach virtues are most likely to be lining up victims to rob. "Quit wiggling while I pick your pocket. I'm actually doing you a favor by taking your dirty old money." Brecht is one smart fella. I'll have to look him up.

Phillep, good analogy. Another appropriate analogy would be when peace prizes are given to war mongers.

This quote has been my favorite for nearly 30 years. It reminds me of people holding offices at all levels today; no need to name names. Follow up the comments of David Stockman this week, (of 21 April 2013).

Because of Israel's pride and contempt for God's laws of morality, the divorce was finalized. So much so, The Creator Burned the house Down to the ground ! AD 70. " Outer darkness " Israel was cast into, as with the rest of the world. It makes the Light of Liberty and Freedom much easier to See in the Dark night. " But the path of the just is as the shining Light, that shines more and more unto the perfect day. The way of the wicked is as darkness: they know not at what they stumble." Prov 4:18,19. How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning ! how art thou cut down to the ground, which did weaken the nations ! The Lord of hosts hath sworn, saying, Surely as I have thought, so shall it come to pass; and as I have purposed, so shall it stand. That I will break the Assyrian in my land, and upon my mountains tread him under foot: then shall his yoke depart from them, and his burden depart from off their shoulders. This is the purpose that is purposed upon the whole earth: and this is the hand that is stretched out upon all the nations." Isaiah 14:12,24,25,26. Awake, Awake, put on strength, O arm of the Lord, awake as in the ancient days." Lucifer, " The captive exile hasteneth that he may be loosed, and that he should not to die in the pit, nor that his bread should fail." Isaiah 51:14 KJB. The quote is right on point !
