Indeed! And we are currently experiencing the results... we have dropped down to 30th re: science and there is a brain drain - we are obsessed with results to the point there is no content.

Education towards what? I know of some very intelligent and educated neo-con professors who will support the absolute surge into Iran. I know of some very intelligent and educated liberal professors who would bankrupt this country with socialized and universal health care. I know the founding father's feared democracy, because even the educated man would succumb to fear of threat and the majority could be subject to mass hysteria -- giving up their freedom for perceived security. Sure, "education" is important, but towards what ends? We could be raised upon the educated lies of our fathers, what does this profit us? It's mere ideology to automatically assume this statement holds any weight in real application. It is not merely the ignorant that use good intentions to pave their road to hell.

Very well said Logan, A large collection of information or philosophy does not make wisdom, knowledge, or a true education. According though, to the quote, if the mis-information, dumbing down, and/or substantivless philosophy of this nation is to be considered an education, the nation's fate is set certain.

Enlightenment is the key - that should be the focus of education - to know what BD means in the word education you need to know his thoughts on education and I'm afraid we are far from that. An 11th grader today could not take the same exam of 50 years ago - yes, we are falling backwards - at least our nose will not be bent out of shape...

Education is one thing but indoctrination is something else. The purpose of Marx's public fool system is to indoctrinate. Yes, "Free education in public schools" fills the tenth plank of Karl Marx's Communist Manifesto. All ten planks were at least partly enforced HERE by bankers, lawyers, judges and journalists before we lost 110,000 of our best in Asia under the pretext of "halting communist expansion." The first three planks gave us real estate, income and inheritance taxes.

Knowlege is power. Freedom is power. Therefore Knowlege and Freedom are inalienable from each other.

The quote did not say that the country's fate depended on propaganda. To be educated means that you have learned something, it does not mean that you have been programmed. Our schools are dealing less and less with education. Our county's fate depends on this trend being reversed. The quote could not be more to the point.

As the estimable Mr. Jefferson so trenchantly expressed it:

" If a nation expects to be ignorant and free in a state of civilization, it expects what never was and never will be."

A decent education in a safe and nurturing environment is an inalienable right of any citizen of a country that calls itself civilized.
     -- Mick, Manchester
  •
Mick, at secular natural law, rights that are inalienable are not dependent on third parties - i.e., a decent education (by what or whose standards - far, far too general), or a safe and nurturing environment. Inalienable rights are inherent in each and every, any and all individuals - citizens or not of any country. You speak of duties, responsibilities and privileges as rights, they are not, they are different. Your statement derives from a theocratic dogma - not relating to natural law / inalienable rights. Above, Patrick's quote hereinabove, addresses historically accurate consequeces of duties, responsibilities and privileges but, does not address inalienable rights.

A very true statement. by a very Jewish socialist. "one nation conservatism" maintains Labour Government Keynesian intervention in the economy. Forming a Welfare State and National Health Service. One Nation Conservatism reflects the belief that societies exist and develop organically, and that the members within them have obligations towards each other. There is particular emphasis on the paternalistic obligation of those who are Privileged and Wealthy to the poorer parts of society. Tory democracy. David Cameron praised Disraeli as his favorite conservative. Theresa May referred to herself as a One Nation Conservative and favors the practice of Paternalism, Latin, paternus, " fatherly". Limit a person or group's Liberty or Autonomy for what is Presumed to be that person's or groups own good. Now in 2017 against all odds America Patriots seek to roll back such unconstitutional practice and restore Gladstonian Liberalism to as much of a degree as possible. Common Sense and the Individual Sovereign at Liberty. So when one Hears a Republican conservative speak, be ware. When a democrat opens their mouth, we already know their intentions of furthered centralized government intervention and unconstitutional taxation of the " unprivileged individual sovereign." Freeborn or otherwise adopted. Not all Jews are socialist. Preferring ancient Liberty, rather than that of ancient welfare. Secular natural law works well for heathen brothers, who walk according to their conscience. avoiding insolvent religious dogmas of socialism which have saturated our educational system.
