"The aim of art, the aim of a life, can only be to increase the sum of freedom and responsibility to be found in every man and in the world. It cannot, under any circumstances, be to reduce or suppress that freedom, even temporarily."

That to me is the true definition of 'progress' -- liberalism used to champion such a cause.

For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, you have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God ; and are become such as have need of milk, and not strong meat. Fro every one that useth milk is unskillful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe. But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil. Experience is our guide to understanding the absurd in life. Human solidarity is metaphysical. the " Form of the Good " is the way by which all others forms are realized. It is what gives truth to the things known and the power to know to the knower. The sun allows for sight, but sun is not sight, it is the cause of sight itself. As is the sun in the visible realm, the Form of Good is in the intelligible realm. Although the Good is not being, it is superior to it in rank and power. it is what provides for knowledge and truth. It is not only the cause of knowledge and truth, it is an object of knowledge. Justice, truth, equality, beauty and many others ultimately derive from the Form of Good. Natural philosophy is obscured by empirical activity. Science ( scientia ) is knowledge. Mr. Camus and his quote identify the source of art and the aim of life, at Liberty. To understand the absurd, allows for responsible behavior. this is found in every man and in the world. Truth seeks reality, as science and religion are one in nature. king David, a philosopher king, sought after that which Good is. And was persecuted for it. Tyranny brought about by greediness of gain, through enslaving of another, brings about the lose of ones liberty and freedom, of person and property ! Sight and sound strike A mutual corn of understanding. Natural laws of nature give light to the Form of Good. Understanding gives reason to man and his right to rebel.
