"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America's debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. government can't pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our government's reckless fiscal policies. ... Increasing America's debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that 'the buck stops here.' Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better."

He got it right the first time in 2006. But he's like a chameleon, he changes to suit whatever he wants at the moment. I never thought I would give 5 stars to anything Obama said, but in 2006 he got it right in spite of himself.

Yep, that's the only correct thing I've heard him say. Too bad he went blind since then.

I can't give this a rating. He was a liar then and he's a liar now. The quote on its own is noble but it was, from the Kenyan, a lie as he himself was merely politicing. We ALL deserve better than the imposter with a teleprompter and an empty resume. And since when did we need "community organizers" anyway? Stalin and Hitler had those...Americans don't need them.

If this hypocrisy does not give you inspriation to vote this charlatan out of office in 2012, I do not know what will. And in that case, may God help us all.

It is for THIS reason that we should NOT raise the debt ceiling any more. Time to start cutting spending just like the rest of us. Obama is a bald faced liar, obviously. Either he was lying then or he is lying now -- frankly I believe he was lying in 2006 AND continues to lie to this day. Whatever we do, do not cast another vote for Obama. Ron Paul is the only one who can be trusted as president -- the fact that the GOP ignore him is a sign that both the GOP and the Demos are in league with the bankers.

This quote needs to be sent to Obama today, July 22nd, especially after his "so called" criticism of Boehner during his press conference this afternoon following Boehner's "walk-out" from the meeting!!!!

Boy, I bet Obama wishes he never said that. Funny how words come back to bite you!

Not shooting the messenger, Mr. Obamunist Goodwrench the assassin is understating the problem, but stating the problem anyway. Neither the executive or legislative; republican or democrat or, socialist (communist / fascist; liberal / progressive / neo-con, etc.) has seen the rise of a leader that would offer to throw off the statist theocracy that infests this land. The statist theocracy's chief executive can only offer time proven failures (the lack of leadership starts from the top down)

Ann, We had a "born again Christian" president awhile back by the name of Jimmy Carter. Carter was one of the worst presidents in our history. Two of our best presidents, Adams and Jefferson were Deists. I care not about the religion of our leaders as long as they aren't Muslims. Jimmy has made me a bit leary of this "born again" thing.
     -- jim k, Austin, Tx

P.S. Carter is even worse now that he is an ex-president. He runs all over the globe knocking this country and never sees a leftist dictator he doesn't love.

Hypocrisy or not we should be ashamed of ourselves for having such a corrupt and malicious communist in OUR white house or even reading his bulls***. While we fight to keep our jobs and pay our bills he's having party after party on our dime. It's time to end the madness!!!!!!

I'm wondering where all of the "Conservatives" were when Bush Jr was spending MORE money than all of the Presidents before him, both dem & rebubs alike. ZERO jobs were created in that 8 year span (yes, I did vote for him both times, we all make mistakes!), the Greenspan God (he has now admitted that he was WRONG about his "ideas" on the economy) was flooding the markets with fake money, just like now, over 60 trillion in black box financial vehicles/deals (swaps and derivatives) were bilking many good people out of their assets & retiremant funds, and more money was transfered into the bank accounts of the few than ever before (if possible, since 1 % of Americas population owns 40 % of our assets!), 2 illegal wars were started (and millions of innocent people were wipped off the globe, which is part of the Republican/Imperialist war-agenda), the UN-PATRIOT act became our prision, Medicare part D (a ten trillion $ unfunded SOCIALIZED MEDICINE was encated (for the drug co's, not the people), THE PEOPLES programs were gutted, along with the clean water act, and everything I hold dear that I would love the American children to be able to enjoy ......all destroyed, along with saddling America with a 12 trillion $ debt, where there was a surpplus when Clinton left office, and then the final gift went to Goldman Sucks and the International Bankers in the whopping amount of 850 BILLION buckeroos! Thanks to Bush and Paulson and their gang of thugs. Now I may be the ONLY sane one here, but that does NOT sound like conservatism to me! It sounds like the GOOD OLD BOYS CLUB we have been supjected to for over 60 years! Si I think the neo-cons should be renamed to what their spending policies prove (as in actual money spent, and how they voted) and be called the new LIBERALS! But, I know, I know.....it is all that damn black muslim mans fault! hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha, funny! NOT! Republicans can add hipocrite onto liberal! Ron Paul is the ONLY one with any BALLS in the Republican party. AND michele bachman and her fruitcake husband are the cherry on the nasty CORPORATE WELFARE cake. She has vowed to support tieing the noose, over our Constitutional rights! Who is she working for, anyway? Bin Ladden? Maybe someone should inform her that he is dead, and there is no need to continue to destroy America any further! But, none of you will, will you? You wilL JUMP on her freak show band wagon and sing the praises of conservatism while she spends us right into the brink (but Obama will still get the blame, as he is responsible for everything horrible in Americas past, and also our future, IF you make the mistake of listening to a repub~

His comment then was absolutely correct. For those that voted out republicans at least in part because of the spending, there is now even more of the same reason to vote out the democrats. If they support big government, vote them out. Only when the people penalize it will it stop.
     -- J. Allen, Arlington, Va

Carol is correct and so was Obama. The issue he was complaining about was the Bush Tax cuts that got us into the problem then and now. Bush and his surrogate Cheney were saying "Deficits don't matter". Barack needs to enforce the Constitution and pay our debts regardless of Congress or the Tea Party, then do away with the Bush Tax Cuts and put the US back onto the Clinton Regimen.
     -- Waffler, Smith

If you think the quote is hypocrisy research what Reagan said about the charade of annual debt limit increases.
     -- Waffler, Smith

If he had ever run a business he would know how to problem solve. But community organizers do not problem solve; they agitate and create dissension and trouble, exactly what he has done since he took office as senator. He blundered into this one true and correct statement as a product of that activity. In order to correct issues, a complete understanding of the situation (debt and taxation) has to exist. Why do people expect any enlightenment from a man who knows not the difference between profit and revenue?

Yup, he's got it right, but he still denies that he's the culprit that put us there in the first place AND is the one that's keeping the ball rolling in that same direction. Geez, what’s his problem? He must think we’re stupid.

To Krista, Check your facts Krista. Irrespective of Bush's spending policy the economy grew for 56 consecturive months. A Sur Winston Churchill quote comes to mind when dealing with people of your intellect: "The greatest argument against a democracy is a five minute conversation with the average voter."
